“Safety first, until it costs.” – Daniel Titherington (@ SM I class)
Businesses often state “safety first” to project that employees are their most important value. Yet very few actually live it. At issue is the perception safety as a cost center, and decision making reflects it. The continual balance of competing resource interests needs to work in harmony for the business to be financially sustainable, otherwise the business contracts. Ebbs and flows are a constant in the life of a business and humans make it or break it. Safety is an investment and yes, it does add to profits.
