While Stephen was speaking of the universe, his statement can apply to business and safety as a whole. Sometimes it feels like safety will be impossible as we traverse the myriad of barriers to success. Risk is inherent in business, and as such, safety needs to play the role of ensuring risk can be taken without serious consequences. Our safety processes and systems need to work in concert with risk, because with out it, “then there’d be nothing to stop the whole universe from descending into chaos”. Stephen, you will be missed.
